The Write 31 Days is coming to an end soon! Only five more days! So, this will be the last week of fashion-focused posts.
At the beginning of this series, I featured a swing dress and all the ways you could style it. So I thought I’d bring it full circle and end this series by talking about a sheath dress and how it is another “blank canvas” piece. A sheath dress is one piece that every woman should have because it is easily adaptable. It’s perfect for work, for lunch out with friends, for church, for a funeral, for a dressy occasion.
Sheath dresses come in different styles. The classic one is the straight sheath which is designed to fit close to the body (think of a sword or knife’s sheath). You can define the waist by adding a belt.
If you don’t have much of a waist, like me, then a dress with darts adds some definition and the illusion of a waist.
Or a dress with some ruching will also hide some tummy and give you a more defined waist.
Better yet, go for a sheath with an a-line skirt. That is what I will be styling. It has a fitted bodice and then the skirt flares out just a bit giving me a more girly figure. Plus it’s more forgiving on the hips and thighs.
Here it is in its plainest, simplest version. The blank canvas, ready to take on paint.
How funny! I’m styling my LBD tomorrow! I’m looking forward to your ideas this week!
