It’s still pretty warm here in NE Florida, at least for December! When the Blended Blog’s Wednesday link up theme was Cozy for the Holidays, the last thing I wanted was to be cozy! So I put my thinking cap on and came up with some variations on how to transition a summer dress to fall (it’s still technically fall til the winter solstice!) so that you can look fall without sweating!
This dress has been a favorite this summer. (You can see how I styled it for the summer HERE.) It’s light and loose and feels like I’m wearing a giant tshirt.
The first step in making the transition is to add opaque black tights and closed shes like these black Kenneth Cole booties that I bought a few months ago from Nordstrom Rack. When I started playing around with the cozy feel, I reached for this thick purple sweater. This would work great for those cool mornings when you need a little something on your arms but you know it’s going to warm up later.
I just love this boyfriend cardigan and it’s not quite as heavy as the above look. Plus I like this more monochromatic look. I might even add a bright scarf if the weather called for it.
This lighter-weight mustard yellow sweater is a favorite and brightens up this look! I will wear this later on in the day when it cools off a bit.
Here’s what I’m really wearing today. It’s still too warm to actually wear sleeves so I’m wearing this lightweight rust-colored vest as a completer piece.

Is it weird that I love tights?!? When we get to sweater and tights weather, I’m one happy girl! I love how you cozied up these looks!
I need more tights in my life. Going on my wish list…
Nicely done! I think the monochromatic look is my favorite!
I like that one too. And the mustard.
I love the dress, and how many ways you styled it, so fun!
Lots of great looks with transitioning this dress. My fave is the tone on tone with grey.
I like that one too. That and the mustard. I tried it with a cream waterfall but the white and cream didn’t work for me.
Love love love that yellow sweater! It just pops and still looks so cozy!
Thanks Abbie! (Good to see you again!) I like it too. Might need to get another one soon! I’m wearing this one out!
Love all the different ways you made your dress cozy!
Thanks Lana!
I need to remember this post for our fall- I have so many summer dresses that just get stuck in the summer wardrobe.
Such a great way to stretch a wardrobe!
I love adding tights to transition a dress. As it snows here, I am thinking (wishing) for some warmer weather – I’d gladly send it your way…

Wish we could do a house swap for a week!
This dress look entirely different with each cardi and pair of tights. Love the purple cardi look. Did you see Jill’s patterned hose on A Pocketful of Polka Dots? They were really flattering just like your tights. Your legs look smashing and so fit.
On another note, the watercolor wash look of your blog is perfect for your nautical theme. Softer and more feminine than your earlier blog design. Very pretty.
