One trend that I’m slowly getting the knack of is pattern mixing. On a beautiful spring day I gave it a try, mixing a floral top with gingham pants.
I paired the floral top I had purchased from JC Penney for a style challenge with black and white checked Adrienne Vittadini trousers.
I added the large pearl necklace that reminds me of the one worn by Betty and Wilma from the Flinstones cartoon. Am I right?
Since the pants are slightly long, I wore my Bjørn platform wedge slides.
I just love the florals in this top. The big pattern lends itself to mixing with a smaller pattern like these black and white gingham pants.
You might remember I tried a little pattern mixing with this top before. Here I paired it with Old Navy olive pants that have a subtle repeating pattern on it.
I’ve seen some bad examples of pattern mixing but if you hold to the large/small rule, you can be successful! Have you tried that trend before? Do you like it?

I think I like the gingham pants better than the olive ones. A little brighter. And maybe because you fancied up the gingham outfit. Just my two cents.
Thanks Cathy! I can’t decide which I like better. I like that the olive pants pulls from the green in the shirt and it’s a bit more subtle. The gingham is a bigger contrast to me but the colors are so neutral.
I love me some pattern mixing! And I love you in platform wedges! Both of these outfits are great, Sheila. I especially like the subtlety of the olive trousers!
For some reason I gravitate towards THIS shirt for pattern mixing. I was teetering in those high heels! Ack!
You gravitate to this shirt for good reason! I love wedges! They feel really stable to me. Can’t wear skinny heels anymore.
I just like flats. Wait til I show you what I bought today! You won’t believe iiiiiiitttt!!
So you’re texting me RIGHT NOW, right?!?
One of the most gorgeous floral tops I’ve seen. The stripes on the sleeves are so cute!
I love your pattern mixing, both pants work so well with this top!
Thanks Sarah!
Such a pretty floral top! Great pattern mixing!
Thanks Lana!
