As I’ve mentioned before, I’m participating in the Write 31 Days writing challenge where we are encouraged to – get this – WRITE for 31 days on one topic. I chose to write about fashion since I am making a more concerted effort lately not to look so dowdy, disheveled, or frumpy. The older I get the more I feel like just wearing yoga pants and large, shapeless tee shirts. I must fight that urge. I can’t be alone in feeling this. Right? (Tell me I’m right!) I hope you will join me on my journey!
Today I’m excited to share with you the grey Old Navy swing dress. I had bought a striped swing dress this summer and it was so comfortable yet attractive that I knew I had to have a fall version.
After playing around with it when it first arrived in the mail, I realized how valuable it having a blank canvas is for creativity. That’s what this dress is. A blank canvas. You can do so much with it! We will start simple and build from there. Since it’s still so warm in Florida, all you need to add to this base is some cute shoes and a statement necklace.

Come back tomorrow to see what the dress looks like when you add a scarf!
Note: I did not receive any compensation from Old Navy to talk about this dress. It’s something I bought and love and I want to share it with you. There is no affiliate link in this post.
Sheila. You look adorable. I love the booties. Great looks!
Thanks Anne! The booties are moving me out of my comfort zone! Can you tell by the look on my face?
Oh, WOW, I love the new photos….high fives to the photographer, he or she captured you perfectly! Gorgeous!
I’ll let my photographer know. I begged her to help me with this. She agreed. {My daughter} We are going to have “photo shoot dates.” I will reward her with high end coffee.
Ditto what my friend Deena says. These photos are tremendous. You have an natural ease in front of the camera. The scenery is beautiful. Your dress is darling. And I love your cute haircut.
My daughter is my photographer. She is talented but busy so I don’t get to use her very often. And I’m laughing at the “natural ease in front of the camera” statement! You should see all the bloopers!
I’m really looking forward to your series because I know it will be practical as well as super cute!
Love this look on you. For me? Not so much. A dress that hits you just above the knees would be half-way up my thighs! LOL. However, I do like the idea of having a “blank slate” to work with. I’ve accumulated quite a few really lovely scarves over the summer (thrifted mostly) that I’m looking forward to working into my wardrobe this fall. A “blank slate” dress would be perfect for that. I also really like the tassel necklace. Thanks for the ideas!
I didn’t order the petite, Karla, because I didn’t want it to hit me mid-thigh! But if you look for a midi length it should work on you. You may already have something that would work as a blank slate in your closet. I scored 4 new scarves at GW last week! (like I need anymore scarves!). And that tassel necklace? Got it last year at Walmart of all places! It has such a nice weight to it. Doesn’t feel cheap at all but the price tag was just right.
As a new mom of 2, I have resorted to yoga pants, shapeless shirts, baseball hats and no makeup! Ugh! I need to find my cute I left behind 3 years ago! I look forward to your photos!
My style is simple and practical. Although my kids are older, my calendar is full and I don’t have a lot of time to waste on primping! Thanks for stopping by! I hope you get some good, easy ideas that you can implement!
I’m sure you will!
Super cute, girl! That dress can be worn in so many ways! Love pieces like that!!
Thanks Casey! Me too!
