My Alaskan Adventure {part 2}

Continuing my Alaskan Adventure… You can read part 1 here.

As we flew into Anchorage, the view from the plane was AMAZING bringing thoughts of Charles Martin’s book The Mountain Between Us to my mind.That first night in town, I was able to visit with a dear old friend and his sweet family. When they picked me up at the hotel, I was surprised to see how much his daughter had grown! We spent a lovely evening together, sharing a delicious meal and a great bottle of red wine. Regrettably, I was so busy having fun that I forgot to get a picture! Grrrrrr…. Last year this friend drove me around for over an hour in search of moose. I never did see one last year. In fact, I snapped this picture in the airport just in case this was the only moose I got to see THIS year.Thankfully this year, we saw a calf on our drive over to their house.He was safely behind bars mom! Good thing I snapped a shot of this one because it was the ONLY moose I saw the whole time! (My mom’s prayers are STRONG, folks!)

Besides working the convention at the Egan Center, we tried several places to eat. I discovered Kaladi Coffee in a little market not far from the hotel. They add a “non-alcoholic Kahlua-like flavoring” to the latte. Oh my! Tasty!One night we ate downtown at the Glacier Brewhouse. We had eaten there the year before and wanted to try it again.It did not disappoint. Although last year I ordered salmon {Alaska, duh!}, I discovered that I don’t really care for salmon so I went with this:
Yes. I was halfway through it before I remembered to snap the picture. Oops.

Working at this convention I was given the task of keeping a lookout for a friend’s sister-in-law. We connected and snapped a selfie as proof {hi Vickie!!}The mountains that surround Anchorage are really beautiful. See?We had really good weather for the most part.  I really liked Anchorage.After Anchorage we flew to Fairbanks while the Sonlight crew drove. Read my friend Karla’s account of that trip {click here}. Admittedly, I was a bit envious of what they got to see, but since I got to see it too, it wasn’t a terribly bad envy. Check out my next post for that trip!

  1. Enjoyed reading about your Alaskan adventure. Love to travel but will have to live vicariously through you in this one:-)

  2. Sheila,

    Am loving this Alaska review…been to the Egan center many times for many different events over the years, also the Glacier Brew House and Kaladi Brothers. Isn’t that a very fine moose at the airport. Nice calf you got to see, as well. Thanks for sharing. Tereasa
