I mentioned yesterday that I made a quick fennel salad to go with the grilled snapper we picked up from the Safe Harbor Seafood Market. It’s so super easy that I almost can’t call it a recipe! But since most everyone I talk to doesn’t know what fennel is or how to prepare it, I figured I’d share with you this easy way to serve it. I hope you’ll give it a try. I picked up my fennel at Trader Joe’s. This is my favorite way to eat it.
Instructions
- Trim tops of fennel bulb to remove the fronds and stalks. Thinly trim the bottom of the bulb to remove brown spot.
- Vertically slice the bulb in half. Place cut side down and thinly slice the bulb half. Repeat with other half.
- Place in a bowl and dress with lemon juice, olive oil and salt to taste.

This looks good. I’ve never had fennel. Is it kinda like an onion?
No. It’s actually more like celery in consistency. People say it tastes like anise.
